According to a study developed by Mind Commerce, the global market for mobile marketing and advertising is worth currently $29 billion and is expected to grow 12% to reach $50 billion by 2014. The current trends in mobile marketing include increased smartphone sales and usage; dramatic increase in mobile web sites usage; growth in mobile commerce adoption and expansion of multi-channel marketing mix. "Smartphone sales has exploded over the last 17 or 18 months and it’s only going to increase and continue to grow" said Tracy Benson, senior director of interactive marketing and emerging media at retailer giant Best Buy. Another rapidly growing trend is mobile application development along with the high-revenue generating market it has created. The Apple App Store recorded over 2 billion application downloads by the end of 2009.

"Within three years time there will be as many people worldwide accessing the Internet via a mobile phone as via a PC. In the Netherlands, already 3 million people use mobile devices to access Internet on a regular basis.
